A new page for our website, to illustrate how we work.

Case 1; English Whisky Co. Ltd, Roudham; September 2010. Fire and Explosion

Andrew, the MD, knew risks of explosion from whisky manufacturing were non-existent; this is even with a warehouse full of volatile spirit..... However, there was no proof of this when the HSE inspected, they weren't convinced, so the Company received an Improvement Notice requiring a risk assessment.

Richard from RedCat visited to provide a quote for this (and other) work, but ended up taking a seat and helping Andrew get right down to the risk assessment right there and then. In less than a couple of hours, we had a page and a half document illustrating the whisky processing, with a full analysis of each stage to prove that the nature of the hazard was neglible. However, existing control measures were also documented (as required) against the hierarchy of control in the Regulations. This further showed the risk to be negligible.

Andrew emailed this assessment straight off to the HSE inspector.

Later that afternoon, a reply from the HSE; the Improvement Notice was complied with and all is well.

So, from sales pitch, to risk assessment, to Improvement Notice compliance in a matter of hours. Not a bad day's work, and not every day we get to do this.

It also illustrates that we know health and safety law and how it needs to be approached, the standards expected, etc. You know your business. Together, when we sit down to combine our knowledge and experience, we can make sure the busienss operates how it needs to.
